Re: MG TF Question.

Thanks for looking that up Gazza, I do appreciate it. The information that I can't find is how the engine deals with the heating the the K series so miserably fails at. You see the latter TF is notorious for overheating and blowing it's head gasket. The K series engine has strengthening bolts that g...

Re: MG TF Question.

John, you seem to know more than the average of the MG TF, the later one, not the 50's one. I've done a bit of searching and can't find out what exactly the XPower 500 engine is. Was it a new concept? Is it a rehash of the K series, and looking at the picture, it struck me that if the K series engin...

Re: breakdown truck

Oh my days, that's gorgeous!     specsavers.png After the fall of Nicolae Ceaușescu's communist regime, a number of churches and other charities, got a convoy of aid together for Romanians. It was my privilege to be honoured with the task of taking and supervisin...

    Gotta love a nice Chicago Typewriter! I had a toy one when I was a small(er  ) child, it looked more realistic than some of the airsoft replicas going around these days. I went through a phase of carrying the toy gun on the crossbar of my bike, the third time t...

Re: MG TF Question.

Is it a Kwik-fit fitter, maybe it's someone who's just been run over? No, it's Tailpipe Man ! No links 'cos his "niche" car-related hobby is NSFW or anywhere else for that matter, but we all remember Tailpipe Man, don't we? And if you haven't heard of him, FGS use Duckduckgo to search as visual med...

Re: MG TF Question.

While I like wire wheels they are a nightmare to keep clean.. id have to put some alloy wheels on it for daily use The wheels came in two sizes, the original Y- Type had 16" wheels and the YB had 15" and that's the cause of much heated "debate" in MG circles. There is a third Y-Type called a YT, th...

Ugh! Far too modern. Like me, there's old, and there's old, and that ain't old enough. This is old enough.

Re: MG TF Question.

Rekindling an old, but rather amusing thread. There's a car like mine somewhere or other that the owner has had resprayed in gun metal/metallic silver. Looks rather good I thought, I wouldn't mind betting that there's more than one MG type choking on his beer though.

Re: What modern engine/gearbox to use

I'd be tempted to go with a Toyota 1NZ (1500cc, 108 bhp and a usable quantity of torque, easy to convert to north-south applications too, a guy in the local multi-marque club is fitting one to his Minor Traveller) or, better yet, the short stroke, but otherwise similar 2NZ at 1300cc, slightly less ...

Re: What modern engine/gearbox to use

How about an engine on steroids? Or could that be hemiroids? You might have to knock the bonnet about a bit, but the end result might just kick ass, as our friends over the pond say.
