Re: 1971 VW full build (warning lots of pics)
Not updated this for a while but I've had a bit of a deal on the cards with the 68 that has taken weeks to sort out. So last weekend after a 450 mile round trip to meet a guy half way in Scotland somewhere, http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a302/89Rallye/69%20Karmann%20Ghia/CB3C7873-736C-457E-8135-1...

Re: Classic camper?
Ah the poor old vw always gets such a hard time  If the T25 tickles your fancy your right looking at late model ones as they are usually higher spec, I'd personally go for a 5 cylinder engine but these can be hard to get hold of now (south African imports) I'd also pay the extra money and go fo...

Re: Ultra sonic cleaners - Anyone have experience of them?
My main reason for wanting one is to just clean packing and manufacturing greases etc off new engine parts before measuring and assembling. I'm building quite a lot of aircooled engines at the moment and it does make a difference to the quality of the engine, the beauty of the aircooled motor is tha...

Re: Ultra sonic cleaners - Anyone have experience of them?
Well me dad ended up buying an Aldi one, at £16 it was hard to pass up and worth a gamble. Tanks big enough for nuts/bolts etc and a bit more. It's been on all day but most of the stuff I was doing were brand new parts but I did experiment with some pushrods which were pretty bad. http://i14.photobu...

Re: Ultra sonic cleaners - Anyone have experience of them?
Funny you should mention aldi because they have one in at the moment reduced from £22 to £16, it's only a small basket/tank but ideal for nuts bolts etc I'm going to go and have a look, just not sure if it's heard sort not. Noticed frost have a similar one for £130 so at £16 I think it's worth a gam...

Re: For the love of cars.
Putting the shows structure/contents etc aside, I really wish I didn't watch it....
Simply because it makes me want a Mk1 Mexico again
And with today's prices that won't be happening any time soon!

Ultra sonic cleaners - Anyone have experience of them?
I've got quite a few engines to build up over the next few months and I'm thinking about purchasing an ultrasonic cleaner to aid in cleaning parts (new and used) prior to assembly. Just wondered if anyone has any experiences if them, I'm looking at a 15l tank which doesn't come cheap but the only pr...

Re: 1971 VW full build (warning lots of pics)
Driveshafts are not level with each other, the van has been lowered slightly on the rear with the torsion bars and because this van has no rear arches (cheap period mod in the states to fit bigger wheels for better gearing) it's difficult to get a reference point to where it should be. All sorted no...

Re: 1971 VW full build (warning lots of pics)
Thanks Kev 8-) I'm taking the foot off the pedal for a while as I'm not going to make my deadline (Vw 18th April) so there seems no point rushing things for no reason. Been a little sidetracked this week building (or really rebuilding) an engine for someone, I built the long block up about three yea...
