Re: antifreeze

I looked at this subject some time ago when trying to make a decision about the "right" kind of antifreeze for my 1937 Daimler 15 Sports Saloon. In summary, my view is: 1. Best choice is Propylene Glycol, but it has to be used at minimum 50/50 mix with water. PG is kind to the environment & is used ...

Re: 1937 Daimler running restoration

Although she is 76 years old she is very much in demand for the weddings of family and friends. In August my son got married & here is a photo of me driving the bride to be to the venue. She attracted a lot of interest from young and old alike. http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee387/Captain-bobo/...

Re: What regulator is this?

Thanks for responding. The first link to the DLOC forum is the forum posting that started the discussion trying to identify the "offending" regulator. I also have a copy of the document that the second link points to, but thanks for thinking of this. For the time being a Lucas RB106 is being install...

What regulator is this?

A contact of mine also has a pre war Daimler that he is rebuilding. It has a weird non-standard Lucas regulator that we can't identify & I wondered if anyone in this forum can shed any light and help us identify it. It has 2 bobbins (so we assume 1 for cut out and 1 for dynamo regulator). Printed on...

Re: SU carbs oil level

A couple of years ago I chatted with the people at SU about the "right" oil for their carbs. They recommend (and sell in very small bottles) monograde SAE30 oil for my pair of HD6 carbs. They said that an issue with multigrade is that, when the carb piston needs to react quickly once everything is w...

Re: Daimler V8 250 Barn Find

Hi, as a fellow Daimler V8 250 owner I wondered what progress you're making on the restoration?

Best wishes, Dave B

Re: 1937 Daimler running restoration

On the subject of leather, it is now 76 years old and getting quite dry and stiff in some places.

I have no experience of feeding and treating leather so I'd be interested in any observations and recommendations that anyone out there can make please.

Best wishes, Dave B

Re: smokey Daimler 250v8

These engines have a tendency to smoke when pretty much anything goes out of adjustment. Glazed bores = smoke from exhaust. Worn valve guides = smoke from exhaust. Worn bores = smoke from exhaust. Worn piston rings = smoke from exhaust. HD6 carbs out of adjustment = smoke from exhaust. Pin hole in c...

Re: Daimler running rich

To add to my last comment: today I was cleaning up my spare set of carbs, the needles measure 42mm from the base of the piston to the point of the chamfered tip. Hope this is useful. Also, I tried to reply to your private message, but the reply sticks in my outbox, I can't find a send button! Best w...

Re: Daimler running rich

OK, some random thoughts, but firstly an apology if I’m stating the bl**ding obvious: The needles for early cars should be type CI, for later cars type TZ: I don't know what year your car is, so suggest you check your needle. The jet needle MUST be positioned with the shoulder flush with the bottom ...
