MGB lumpy running on light load

My MGB runs really well, starts on the button, ticks over smoothly and pulls well without flat spots or pinking, but I can’t seems to get rid of what feels like lumpy running on very light load, ie cruising at 30-40 mph on the flat. Engine is over bored to 2000cc, lightened and balanced, 123 dizzy, ...

I would like to drive this route but there's not quite enough detail for a non local to work it out....would it be possible for the PC team (or a local?) to provide a bit more detail or a Google maps route or something? thx and reg...

changing MGB Fuel pump with full tank of fuel

Hello all any suggestions how to change the fuel pump on a chrome bumper MGB roadster without draining the nearly full tank? I guess I’m going to have to block the flow off with something once the pipe is disconnected, I have tried blocking off the tank filler to prevent air entering but it made lit...

Alpine question for Grease Monkey (John)

Hello John, I read your piece in this month's Practical Classics about the Alpine with the noisy water pump.... I’m interested to know what sort of noise and any other symptoms? The reason I ask..... I have srs V and I have noise that I think may be associated with the pump. It's difficult to pinpoi...

Sunbeam Alpine Hood conversion

Hello all

I have the opportunity to purchase a complete hood and frame (and fittings) for a Sunbeam Alpine srs V. My own Alpine is a GT srs V (hard top only). Does anyone know what is involved in converting a GT to take a hood?

thanks

Re: Backfire Causes?

Thanks, very interesting! I have just changed the fuel additive, and also it has just started not returning to idle after being revved (throttle sticks slightly open) .... so two things as suggested for me to investigate!! Also... I seem to be losing oil from the carburettor dampers (ie it needs fre...

Backfire Causes?

Hi Folks

Any suggestions where I should start looking for a cure to backfiring from the exhaust (actually more like popping) on the overrun?

Engine is 1725 twin Strombergs in a Sunbeam ALpine, runs well, plugs are nice colour.

Thanks !

Re: Spark plug thread repair

I managed to win a Draper kit on EBay for just over £20…. Much better than the £40 -£50 they seem to go for!! Although I haven’t actually seen it in the flesh yet, nor any instructions, looking at various pictures on the net I concluded; • You don’t need to drill…. The tap is stepped with a sort of ...

Rootes 1725 Timing chain cover

Hello all... I’m going to change the timing chain and tensioner etc on a 1725 engine in my Alpine. The WSM makes reference to a special tool to centralize the timing cover when refitting to ensure the seal ring is concentric with the crank..... my question is.... is it necessary to use a special too...
