Re: Best car to learn bodywork
Cheers all- swaying between metro and herald- landy would be great but then I want to learn to weld car panels and so bolt-together doesn't really help. I think it will probably be a metro as they and their parts are cheap (really cheap) and plentiful... now I just need one that needs bodywork but h...

Re: Best car to learn bodywork
Cheers everybody and thanks for the help- I am swayed towards the Herald although I'm not sure how available (or pricey) the bits are. I will do some checking but I think Rimmer and Frost do a lot of the mecanicals. I would consider a Minor but place that in my category of "cars that deserve better ...

Best car to learn bodywork
Hi all- I am new to welding. I have been on the usual college course and duly welded my test pieces for destructive testing- and all went well. BUT I am well aware that there is a world of difference between sticking two tiny pieces of 1.5mm together and tackling a real car body! I know I will make ...

Re: Gearbox resto DVD?
Thanks for that- I have the manual- although I'd like the diagram if you have it as a pdf- (majcd213 at aol.com). Also I see you are in surrey (I'm in Guildford) so maybe I could pop and collect? Appreciate a chat about things too. Midget (probably sprite?) was going to be my next acquisition as so ...

Gearbox resto DVD?
Hi- there are several DVDs on the market covering engine rebuilds- I have the A series pushrod engine DVD and its very useful. However I can't find any that cover how to restore a gearbox or help to demystify the pile of cogs that I know will fall out when I start dismantling! I am going to try and ...

Re: Lotus parts bin-locks
Thanks All- went to Morlands and they did an excellent job of restoring my existing lock. I had thought it beyond repair but its back now, in the car and working great!

Rust treatments- old and new
Hi All- back in the early 70s when I first started motoring I had an old A40 Farina. It was a little rusty even then and I formulated an effective approach to its treatment. This was wire brush or rub down, apply Kurust, wash it off with methylated spirits, prime and paint. The point was that then K...

Lotus parts bin-locks
Lotus were well know for their parts-bin approach to car design. This has good and bad sides. In my case its seems to offer the only hope of a solution! I have a 1980 Elite S2.2. The tailgate lock on this car is now U/S and replacements seem unobtainable- its simply not made any more. As Lotus produ...
